Effective chronic care management requires clinicians to encourage patient self-management of illness and wellness, yet 25-30% of clinical practitioners report lacking adequate knowledge and skills to effectively address wellness and lifestyle behaviors. To prepare health sciences students to effectively address lifestyle behaviors, evidence-based coaching programs are positively impacting their professional ability to promote wellness — as well as their personal health. This presentation will review the key health and wellness coaching concepts, strategies and techniques in clinical practice to enhance motivation and bridge the gap between recommendations and behavior change.
