According to Surgeon General Vivek Murthy “The nation’s health depends on the well-being of our health workforce. Confronting the long-standing drivers of burnout among our health workers must be a top national priority.” Nearly half of all physicians, nurses, and both clinical and non-clinical staff are experiencing high rates of burnout and intent to leave the job across all healthcare roles (Rotenstein et al, 2023).
The mental and physical well-being of healthcare providers has been linked to healthcare quality, safety and patient outcomes. This national forum will focus on enhancing well-being and resilience as well as healthful lifestyle behaviors across all healthcare professions and health sciences students. Presentations will focus on factors contributing to burnout and resilience, effective interventions to reduce the risks of burnout and promote healthy lifestyle behaviors, and changes to the systems and cultures of healthcare settings that improve employee well-being and resilience.
