Joyce Karl is an adult nurse practitioner, Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing and Director of the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist Specialty Tracks at The Ohio State University College of Nursing (OSUCON). She earned her DNP from Ohio State. She currently teaches in the master’s nurse practitioner and DNP Programs. Joyce serves on the Board of Directors as the Director of Education for the Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nurses (OAAPN). She is a Certified Occupational Health Nurse-Specialist (COHN-S) who completed the Occupational Medicine Training Course at the University of Cincinnati and worked as a nurse practitioner in employee/occupational health prior to joining the faculty at OSUCON. She also serves as an evidence-based practice (EBP) mentor and holds the EBP-C certificate of added qualification from the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification. Joyce serves as a Buckeye Wellness Innovator. She has practiced in a variety of settings including as a nurse practitioner in urban employee/occupational health, college health, and free clinic settings as well as prior experience as a clinical nurse specialist in acute/critical care. Her scholarly interests in addition to clinical topics include health literacy, health promotion, diversity, active learning, simulation, electronic health records, interprofessional education, occupational health, and transition to professional practice.
