Dr. Amy Wilson is the Senior Vice President, Nursing Center of Excellence for Ascension. In this role, Amy elevates the role of the nurse through a deeper focus on creating and sustaining a nursing culture; advancing the science of nursing; fostering innovation and iteration; amplifying the nurse voice; and embracing new care delivery models and new roles for nurses across the continuum. In addition, Amy leads nursing research and evidence-based practice; nursing and clinical education; nursing leadership professional development; and the nursing talent pipeline development.
The Ascension Nursing Center of Excellence — was created under Amy’s leadership and vision — is focused on propelling nursing across Ascension into the future by focusing on design thinking, career sponsorship and growth and the modernization of tools to build and improve our nursing community of over 60,000 strong across Ascension. Amy has also led the work to develop and measure the Elements of Joy, which ensures Ascension returns the joy of practice to nursing and helps our nurses flourish personally and professionally.
Amy received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Huntsville and her Master of Science in Nursing, with an emphasis on quality improvement and outcomes management, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Amy received her Doctor in Nursing Practice at Vanderbilt University in May 2020. Amy’s scholarly work focused on decreasing burnout and returning joy to the practice of nursing.
