Family Nurse Practitioner, The James Comprehensive Cancer Center

Kathryn Knill is a board certified nurse practitioner working on the inpatient bone transplant (BMT) unit at The James Comprehensive Cancer Center. She received both her Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing degrees from Ursuline College in Cleveland, Ohio where she specialized in family medicine, a minor in nursing education, and a sub-specialty in palliative medicine. She worked as a float nurse and inpatient BMT nurse at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus prior to moving to Columbus. She recently completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice at The Ohio State University, where her DNP Evidence-Based Practice Quality Improvement Initiative focused on integrating a smart-phone mindfulness app in BMT nursing and evaluating its impact on burnout and well-being.

Kathryn has a passion for wellness and improving communication among team members. She has been working with her staff for years on various self-care and well-being initiatives through interdisciplinary monthly meetings entitled, “Communications and Conversations About Life.” Kathryn is also a member of the Well-Being Task Force at The James and has been working with nursing and physician leaders on creating and implementing new programs to build resiliency among clinicians. In addition Kathryn is an ELNEC trainer and teaches in the End-Of-Life Conference every year at The Ohio State University.

Among these roles, Kathryn has also worked closely with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, leading The James Warriors Team in the Light the Night Campaign and creating the first James Patient Walk. Kathryn is a member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and has received multiple scholarship awards including the Complementary Alternative Medicine Scholarship from The James-CCC, The Carol Waggoner Endowed Scholarship in Palliative Care from Ursuline College, and was named one of four recognized nursing professionals in Cleveland Magazine by the Greater Cleveland Nurse’s Association at the annual Faces of Care Gala.
