Dr. Hommema received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Microbiology, cum Laude, with Honors, from The Ohio State University. She worked as a microbiologist at Battelle Memorial Institute prior to receiving her Medical Degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident and was awarded Resident of the Year in Family Medicine. She joined the faculty as an Assistant Program Director and served in that role for 3 years prior to becoming Program Director. Named a New Faculty Scholar by the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine in 2013, she has also been awarded Family Medicine Attending of the Year at Riverside a national Program Director Recognition Award. Serving on the Riverside President’s Advisory Council, OhioHealth Primary Care Council, and OhioHealth Physician Leadership Team, Dr. Hommema is an active presence in administration at Riverside and within OhioHealth. She is the accountable physician for Resilience at Riverside, has been studying burnout in residents at Riverside since 2011, and is on the steering committee for Practitioner Health and Wellness. Also the co-creator of WE LEAD, an OhioHealth business resource group dedicated to developing female leaders, she is dedicated to creating culture of inclusion and wellness at OhioHealth. Dr. Hommema resides in Upper Arlington, Ohio, and garners much support and joy from her husband Kevin, and daughters Emelia and Clara.
