Dr. Steven Strongwater is the President and CEO of Atrius Health, a non-profit accountable care organization (ACO). Atrius Health employs 6,800 healthcare providers while serving 745,000 patients across eastern Massachusetts. They are a national leader in delivering high-quality coordinated medical, home health and hospice care. Atrius Health has excelled in value-based care while participating in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid’s Pioneer and NextGen ACOs programs, consistently delivering high quality and lower costs. Under Strongwater’s leadership, Atrius Health developed programs to reduce physician burnout and innovations to reduce total costs of care like hospitalization at home. Previously he served as Geisinger Health System’s Chief Transformation Officer and Chief Medical Executive for Acquisition Integration.

Strongwater has served in a variety of leadership positions including Assistant Chancellor, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Chief of Staff and Chief Executive Officer at UMass Medical Center, the University of Connecticut Health Center and Stony Brook University Medical Center, respectively. He was named to Modern Healthcare’s Top 50 Healthcare Executives in the country in 2020 and currently serves on Massachusetts’s Health Policy Advisory Council. He has a long standing interest in population health, physician resilience, quality and patient safety.
 
Strongwater completed his undergraduate medical education at Upstate Medical Center and a research fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Michigan. He is a member of AOA and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies.
